Fetishes of association
An extreme materialist, objectivist, Ayn Randist argued a valid point on what can be described as equivocal comparisons of happiness. For her-a 35 year old divorcee-having an excesses is the emotional satiation that's more meaningful than what she sees as the surrogacy of intangibles in which the poor do in their excess being without (or lack of ambition for having the greater life of more THINGS).
Her association of emotional contentment in the satiated possession and consumption of things, she see as the more quality equivalent of the intangibles of abstractions and intangibles of associated relationships with people and feelings. The getting and having for her is equal to better than the aggregation of sentiment-driven experiences.
